Ellie begins to walk to the exit, a hand limply from Gale's hold. Kyrie's outside. She's waiting. She's been waiting for them all.
(One for her, one for him. Where they got it from, they refused to tell, but the faint glimmer in their eye told her it was costly.)
Ellie doesn't look at Naiyta, still lingering by the burning pyre. What's left? Ash and bone and- no. She can't look.
(Of course it was. All three of them had two stones. Cute widdle adornments that symbolized their ever undyin' friendship.)
But a glimmer of light catches her eye, and she can't help but glance over- she sees pale white through a burning haze of orange, and sees shimmering amethyst and sodalite, untouched and pristine.
(God. They were best friends. They were best friends. She loved him so much. She never even got to tell him how much she-)
Something primal seizes her throat, and as swift as an arrow, Ellie plunges her free hand into the flames, groping blindly through the heat.

2Gale chokes at the smell as Ellie pushes forward. Despite the worry pounding in her heart, they don’t move to stop it.
As soon as Ellie pulls back, Gale squeezes her arm, following its hurried pace down.
Their eyes flickered between Ellie, the stones, and the ground. They wanted to ask if she was alright, comfort it, do something but exhaustion kept her jaw locked.
Down to the door where Kyrie was waiting, their gaze softened at the sight of her. “H-hey Kyr.” They forced out the words, voice dry and shaky.
