MASKTOURN

Overnight, the arena has been transformed again. It’s now a rocky, rugged hellscape. A mountain of dark rock stands in the center; Down it trickle rivulets and streams of molten-hot lava. The air is thick with sulfuric smoke. At the very top of the volcano stands the fight’s relic- this time free-standing instead of on a plinth. It’s a metal spear, plunged into the rocky ground dangerously close to the caldera. The contestants enter from different parts of the arena, but will be able to see each other easily. Naiyta’s voice sounds over the arena and the crowd: “Welcome, contestants, to the next match within the tournament. This fight is between Levi Alphanzeyauro, representing the Bird team, and Enya Liamyouri Hayes, representing the Snake team.” “The goal of this match is to retrieve the relic in the temple at the center of the arena. The first to place a hand on this relic, or the first to knock their opponent unconscious, will be deemed the victor. The loser will be put to death. Good luck to both competitors, and may the spoils of war go to the rightful victor.”

This arena is divided into THREE PARTS. You must pass through all three parts to reach the relic. 

To pass through an area, you must roll three successful dexterity checks.

Contestants can attack each other with ranged attacks through the entire arena. They can only attack with melee attacks once both are in the second area or beyond.

Levi entered the arena on his side, the landscape highlighting his grayed skin within the hellish surface. Yet Levi had no issues, taking a whiff of the sulfuric smoke as if it was fresh air to him. Looking up, he sees the goal. Yellow irises scanning the metal spear up and down. Hearing the announcement, it was obvious this was the stupid relic they were talking about. He turns his gaze to where Enya was. His grin twisting even wider, showing off his sharp teeth. "Finally time to let loose." He growls, cracking his knuckles.

Are you fucking kidding me. Enya’s jaw drops as she enters the arena, the utter shock of a whole ass volcano spiking straight through the vague, numb fear that had taken over. The heat might be no issue to her, but the smoke and rock is something else. And then she looks over to her opponent. To put it bluntly, he’s terrifying. Flame sparks and crackles beneath her feet.

With an unholy shriek Levi crumples to the ground. Still burning as he growls towards Enya. The heat from the lava and the powers of the girl warping his skin... no. For a moment he tries to shift his body. (Tw for bodyhorror): It was a split second, but any who saw it wouldn't be able to unsee it. The way the scaring on his shoulders and jaw crackled and warped under the flames, the metal chains and collar scalding his flesh from the heat alone. How his face for a moment tried to elongate into a snout like shape before snapping back to form unable to change into what he should be. It was blatantly obvious now. He wasn't human. He probably was never human. Something forced into the shape of a man, the mind of one, yet knowing he wasn't supposed to be. Soon he collapsed to the ground, unconscious. Smoke still coming off him as he laid there unmoving.

“Congratulations, Enya!” Naiyta’s deep voice called out cheerfully as they descended the volcano, the spear in hand. It neared her, and put a hand tentatively on her back- healing the damage she had taken in the process. “For being the first here to prove her worth through combat!” In a softer, more private voice, it said to her, “I was rooting for you all along. Congratulations.” Loudly again, they announced, “Victory to Enya! Victory to the Snakes once more!” They paused there for a moment, before walking over to where Levi had fallen. It placed a hand on his forehead- easier, now that he was laying down- and killed him, painlessly, in his sleep… @em || enya 💥 + kenji 🌫 @Barry|Lacey🔦+ Levi🫠

As he was killed within his sleep... his body degraded rapidly. Blackening and shrinking as the collar and chains are finally gone as what was left of his body shrinks and shrinks. Till only a egg like object is left. Though on closer inspection. It looked more like a serphant coiled in on itself in the vaguest shape of one. At least this would be easier to lug around and cremate than his huge form.

Enya drops to her knees mere seconds after Levi does, panting as she shakes with the effort needed to keep herself upright. The smell of burned flesh finally reaches her and she gags, stomach revolting, as she claps a hand over her mouth. Levi twitches and shifts and then suddenly he is changing, burned skin and charred bone warping into..something. Something she can’t describe, and she doesn’t think she ever could. He’d tried to kill her. He could have killed her. Did that mean she had the right to kill him first? Maybe she’ll never be able to answer that either. His body is smoking, smell now mixing with the acrid heat of the lava and the flames that still envelop her, and this time she can’t hold it in. The air that she’s heaving in doesn’t seem to be finding its way to her lungs. Hunched over, coughing and wheezing, she barely processes Naiyta’s approach, or their touch. She hears their words, though. The first to prove worth through combat. It was rooting for her. Both of those thoughts are more than enough for her stomach to climb back into her throat. She’s shaking, she realizes distantly, staring hazily at Levi’s body as Naiyta… As Naiyta finishes what she started. It’s a good amount of time before she stands up. Her skin almost seems to be lit from the inside, glowing like hot metal, and flames crackle softly beneath her feet in tune with her haggard, steadily more panicked, breathing. This doesn’t feel like a victory.

Naiyta picked up the weird egg, and left the arena...
