She was adopted by airbenders Kai and Jinora, and was raised on Air Temple Island. Koto was close with Hanuel Beifong in her childhood, and the two briefly dated, but broke up before Koto recieved her airbender's mastery tattoos. Koto first met Hadiyah Saeed when travelling to Jing Zi on an aide relief mission.

Min-Seo met Nyima while the airbender was on a pilgrimage to spiritual sites in the Fire Nation. Both were young, and quickly developed a deep affection for one another. Despite having to return to their respective nations and jobs, Nyima and Min-Seo kept in touch with letters.

Initally, Min-Seo was positioned at a navel base close to the Northern Air Temple, but was moved to a guard position in the Fire Nation palace around winter of 1 BG. There, she learned of Fire Lord Sozin's plans to kill the Air Nomads, and tried to get the information to Nyima. However, her letters were censored. At the behest of her commanders, Min-Seo participated in the Air Nomad genocide.

Only six years after the genocide, Min-Seo, wracked with grief and guilt, commited suicide.
