MASKTOURN

Valerie wakes laying on a bedroll in a small room. It’s hardly comfortable, but it’s something. There’s no sign of the Lifebringer- or anyone, really. She'd soon realize her clothes have been changed- gone is whatever she was wearing before, replaced by a simple, robelike outfit entirely in white. Morning light filters in from the window, casting the entire small room in a dewy haze. The room is tiny- big enough only to fit the bedroll, a small basin for washing, a chest at the foot of the bedroll, and a low, small writing desk, on which is a folded piece of paper, labeled with Valerie’s name, a clay tablet, and a porcelain face mask. The entire room is furnished in plain white tile, and opposite the window is a stone-paneled door leading out. The letter on the desk is written in ornate, swirling script, reads as follows:

Welcome, Valerie Marcoyouri Gallo!

It is my pleasure to welcome you, not only to the Halcyon Citadel, but to the Snakes! You have been selected, by the Great and Divine Lifebringer, to serve and compete alongside your fellow serpentine contestants and under my gracious leadership. If you have any concerns or run into any trouble, please do not hesitate to bring it to my attention. I’m very excited to meet you all! 

Please wear the mask provided, as it is part of your uniform! You have been provided with clothing items for support and motivation, but please do not wear these as it is not part of your uniform.

The mask was of white porcelain, and would sit on Valerie’s face without falling, held there by some kind of magic. It only covered her eyes and upper faced, and mirrored the look of a snake’s face. Despite no eye-holes, Valerie would be able to see clearly even with the mask on. The clay tablet was just too big to be held in one hand, and was accompained by a small stylus for writing. Its surface displayed the #group-chat, and would update magically as more messages were sent. If Valerie investigated the chest, she’d find something curious. The chest is filled mostly with linens- bedding, towels, spare outfits, but at the top is her coat. (edited)

Waking up was a start. Valerie groaned and pressed her palms to her eyes rubbing them. Then she sat up and groaned, blinking her eyes. She looked around confused. "What the fuck...?" She mumbled. Valerie looked towards the letter and scowled at it, ripping it up. "Yeah no. Screw you. Absolutely not." She scoffed as she tore it up tossing it to the floor...and stomping on it for good measure. Despite the rules instructing her to not wear her coat, she did anyway. "I'm not wearing no stupid uniform. Absolutely not." She shook her head. Still, she grabbed the mask inspecting it. Might as well carry it just incase. Whatever though. She was not happy with any of this. Might as well try and find some other people.

It didn't take long for Valerie to make her way to her room. She held the door open for the two of them to enter before gently shutting it behind her. Valerie couldn't help but shift on her feet a bit nervous. God she hated to see her friend like this. @Aj | Invo + Ryunoske @em || enya 💥 + kenji 🌫

Ryunoske carried Enya with priority, making sure to balance her in a way that would keep pressure off her most vital points. Though, she glanced down at Enya when she felt her go practically cold. From one extreme to the next mustn't have been good... When they got into the room, Ryu gently laid Enya down on the bed and brushed some of the loose hair on her face to the side. "Enya? Can you hear me?" She quietly asked, looking over Enya for any outward injuries now that she had a better look of her. Ryu wasn't sure what else she could do for Enya, and that built an uneasy feeling in her chest. @Cap | Eremurus + Valerie @em || enya 💥 + kenji 🌫

It’s easier to breathe, now, now that she’s no longer in direct danger of hurting them. Enya’s shoulders relax by a fraction as she’s set down, finally exhaling sharply—it sort of feels like the rush of heat you get when you open an oven, though it only lasts for a few seconds before spreading out and raising the room’s temperature by a solid few degrees. Her head tilts back slightly before she finally opens her eyes, still looking just a little bit out of it. “Mhm,” Enya murmurs in response, with a gritted wince she tries to sit up. Any injuries from the fight seem…oddly gone, with the only ones of note being the mirrored angry red patches in the places where Ryu and Val had both touched her. Valerie watched the two for a few moments before moving into the bathroom. "Bandages...bandages..." She muttered softly. "Aha..! Found you." Vaalerie grabbed a roll of bandages and moved back into the room, sitting next to Enya on the bed gently. "Hey, where does it hurt? I got some bandages for you...can we touch you, Enya? Ryu continued to look over Enya with a concerned gaze, but said nothing as Valerie came back with the bandages. She simply made room and gave both women some space. Though, she did continue to release the blueish, green haze from her mouth. She looked up into Enya's eyes for a moment, watching to see what she would do. @em || enya 💥 + kenji 🌫 @Cap | Eremurus + Valerie

The smoke is making things hazy, but at least by her best guess touching is safe now. Enya nods, at first, but her face twists at the sight of the burns on Valerie’s arms and she loosely pushes her hands away. “No, not… Not yet,” she murmurs, shaking her head slowly, “‘m not… not hurt— used to it, you..” Enya blinks over at Ryu, and it’s pretty clear that if it wasn’t for the smoke she’d be a lot more openly freaked out right now than she seems. “You… You two..first, I…” Another apology burns in her throat like acid, but she can’t quite spit it out. @Cap | Eremurus + Valerie @Aj | Invo + Ryunoske

Valerie licked her lips nervously as she turned to Ryu. "...Alright. Us first then you. Deal." She agreed. "Ryu, come sit I'll bandage any burns you have and then you'll do the same for me. We can do Enya after." @em || enya 💥 + kenji 🌫 @Aj | Invo + Ryunoske

"No, you two first," Ryu said and took the bandages from Valerie without asking. "I'm used to this kind of shit. I'll be fine," she said as she got to wrapping Valerie's arms, not bothering to wait for either of the women to object. Despite her harsher tone, Ryu's touch was gentle as she moved Valerie's arm around. Years in the yakuza meant you had to be good at patching your own injuries, after all. Once she was done with Valerie, she turned to Enya. "Don't fight me on this. Just turn over. Please," Ryu said with a softer voice as she looked over Enya. @Cap | Eremurus + Valerie @em || enya 💥 + kenji 🌫

Enya relaxes more once Valerie agrees, and the temperature in the room eases by a degree or so. Her gaze takes a more pleading edge as she turns to see Ryu’s reaction—and morphs into a frown just as fast. Before she can say anything, Ryu’s objecting, and Enya has to bite her cheek to hold back her retort of ‘I’m more used to this’. She watches intently then as Ryu takes care of Val. Half of Enya’s worry is dulled, at least, and she reaches out carefully to squeeze Val’s hand. It’s pretty clear she wants to fight Ryu on this…but she gives in silently after a moment or two, as the last shreds of adrenaline begin to fade and she shifts onto her side. The burn on her back is less harsh than the ones mirroring the placement of Ryu’s and Val’s, but it’s the most distinct, with a clear handprint shape to it. @Cap | Eremurus + Valerie @Aj | Invo + Ryunoske

Ryunoske knew Enya wanted to object and fight her, but was relieved when the woman decided to turn and let her tend her wounds instead. She tenderly touched up the wound and wrapped it in a secure hold, looking over Enya afterwards. "There. It's all good," Ryu said and started to wrap her burns soon after. "We were worried about you, glowstone... trying to push us away will just make it worst, so don't do that again," Ryu sighed, more smoke falling from her lips. @em || enya 💥 + kenji 🌫 @Cap | Eremurus + Valerie

As Ryu takes care of her own burns, Enya sits up slowly, knees bent with her legs to one side. She’s seeming more back to herself at least, but staring down at the floor while Ryu speaks. After a moment, she says, “I.. didn’t want to..push you away, but…” There’s an odd mix of emotions on her face—relief, mostly, but worry and very, very slight anger too. “You— You didn’t listen to me, and you got hurt.” @Aj | Invo + Ryunoske @Cap | Eremurus + Valerie

Valerie didn't even have the chance to protest if she wanted too- instead, she remained quiet as Ryu bandaged her up and Enya held her hand. It was...nice. Reassuring, even. She appreciated it. "I...no worries, Enya." Valerie said as he cheeks heated up. She didn't let go of Enya's hand, now just running her thumb of the other woman's knuckles. "What Ryu said. Don't push us away, come on we're a team aren't we?" She winked. "We kicked ass- we can definitely do it again." @em || enya 💥 + kenji 🌫 @Aj | Invo + Ryunoske

Ryu sighed once again, looking down at both Valerie and Enya with a small frown. "Caring for someone means you can get hurt sometimes. Neither Val or I care about getting hurt if it means we can look out for you, En," Ryu replied. "Val's right. We're a dynamic trio. Enya closes her eyes as they both speak, jaw tensing, and runs her free hand through her hair with a sigh through her nose. “That’s not— You’re still not.. not listening. This was preventable, I…” She trails off, somewhat exasperatedly as her shoulders hunch in (though she doesn’t let go of Valerie’s hand). “T-That kind of thing, it-it happens. Often. A-And I— I need to know you trust me enough to let me take control of— the situation.” Still staring at the floor, Enya’s struggling a little bit to fully articulate her thoughts. “It could have— could’ve been a lot worse...” @Aj | Invo + Ryunoske @Cap | Eremurus + Valerie

A small exhale of smoke came out of Ryu's nose as she listened to Enya, and she dropped to one knee to be face to face with her. "I understand where you are coming from... But if you were in our positions, and one of us was hurt, you would jump straight into trying to help us too, right? Even if it meant you would get hurt," Ryu gently started. "I'm sorry if I overstepped, but to see you hurting.. and to see you in pain, it hurts us too. We couldn't just sit by and just--Try to let you figure it out on your own. That's not who we are. I wasn’t hurt, when you both came, that’s… that’s what I’m getting at.” Fingers twisting and tugging anxiously at the hem of her robe, she swallows down the lump in her throat, then says in one big breath, “Naiyta- healed me. Valerie gently reached out and cupped Enya's face with her free hand. "Even if you weren't harmed physically, you were mentally I think." She gently ran her thumb across the others cheek. "So you still were harmed, dear." "Like what Ryu said...we apologize if we overstepped but, I'm not letting either of you get hurt in this freakshow of a place. I wouldn't forgive myself. Ryunoske folded her arms across her chest, clearly feeling a certain way about Enya's insistence that she didn't need Ryu or Valerie to help her. Fine then. Whatever. Ryu didn't care. Totally. "What Val said..." She mumbled quietly after Valerie spoke. The two gang members seemed to just bounce back and forth saying that line. Though, she did look at Valerie and Enya with a more optimistic expression at the mention of dinner. "Yeah, like that date I was talking to you about, glowstone. We can have one with Val too. Enya doesn’t admit verbally that Val is right, but it’s pretty clearly written across her face as her eyes shut briefly. For a brief moment, it’s easy to ignore everything else, and imagine what could lie ahead of them. “How could I ever say no?” She murmurs, leaning into Val’s hand with a soft sigh and a faint, but there, smile. When she does open her eyes, though, seeing Ryu pulled back slightly shifts her expression into a more confused furrow of her brow. “Ry?” Enya reaches out her free hand, somewhere between either looking to hold Ryu’s or just pull her closer again, she’s not sure. “What’s wrong?” @Cap | Eremurus + Valerie @Aj | Invo + Ryunoske

Valerie eyed Ryu for a moment, she let out a small huff as she grabbed her by the shoulders pulling her close. Valerie wrapped her arms around Ryu's waist, placing her head on her shoulder. "Stop being emooo!!" She whined playfully as she leaned back now, taking Ryu down with her. She flopped backwards and looked at Enya, and moved one of her arms to knock her back down too. A small surprised yelp escaped Ryu's throat when Valerie pulled her, and she was begrudgingly held. "You're ruining my tough guy personality, Val," Ryu complained with a sigh, her words not having any real bite as she laid into Valerie's touch. "I'd have a nice night if a couple of pretty girls gave me a kiss." @Cap | Eremurus + Valerie @em || enya 💥 + kenji 🌫

Enya still seems concerned for a brief moment, but eases up with a small chuckle as the mood lightens and the other two fall back onto the bed. If Ryu doesn’t want to bring it up right now she won’t push. An ‘oof’ escapes her as Val nudges the arm holding her up, but she takes advantage of that to roll over onto her side to face them better. And closer. That’s a plus too. Ryu’s words have her blushing all the way down to her shoulders in no time at all, gaze flicking down Ryu’s face, before she cranes her neck back a little to look up at Val with a small, nervously confident grin. “I— I think we can take care of that, y-yeah?” @Cap | Eremurus + Valerie @Aj | Invo + Ryunoske

Valerie hummed contently as Ryu flopped down with her. She looked down at her and hummed softly. "Mmm that can be arranged." Valerie propped herself on her palms and leaned forward, placing a kiss to Ryu's lips, even nipping at them at bit before she pulled away with a laugh. Ryu smirked a bit when Valerie placed herself on top of her. She tenderly wrapped an arm around Valerie's neck as she pressed back into the kiss, and if she hadn't pulled away when she did, Ryu would of probably ate Valerie up then and there. "One too short. C'mere glowstone," Ryu said and licked her lips as she gazed over at Enya, beckoning for the woman to come closer. @Cap | Eremurus + Valerie @em || enya 💥 + kenji 🌫

The sight before her combined with the look that Ryu’s giving her makes Enya’s breath catch in her throat, and, well. She certainly doesn’t have to be asked twice. Enya’s not nearly as confident as Val, propping herself up on one forearm, and she takes her time—slowly testing the waters as her free hand finds a home against the side of Ryu’s face and sliding up into her hair. When she finally does pull back, chest rising and falling quickly, it takes another breathless moment for her to find her words again. “Better now?” @Cap | Eremurus + Valerie @Aj | Invo + Ryunoske

It was entertaining to see the flash of color and emotions on Enya's face as she came closer. Ryu waited patiently, however, knowing Enya would need to take things slower than Val. Ryu's lips were warm, and surprisingly soft for someone who seemed to not really care about her appearance. Though, there was an almost intoxicating taste on Ryu's lips, not only from the chemicals constantly being produced by her own body, but from the leftovers Valerie left as well. It was a taste only available from Ryu, exclusively for Enya and Valerie. "Better," Ryu nodded and sat up a bit to brush her nose against Enya's, "but it doesn't have to end with just one simple kiss." Her hand gently ran up Enya's side before Ryu turned to face Valerie. "I assume you have the same idea, judging by how greedy you were being with your kiss," she teased. @em || enya 💥 + kenji 🌫 @Cap | Eremurus + Valerie

Valerie leaned back on her palms as she playfully stuck out her tongue, revealing her fangs. "No, not it doesn't." She glanced to Enya offering her a smile. "It's up to the both of you, I'm down for whatever- even if not that, still would love to just spend the night with my gals, you know?" @Aj | Invo + Ryunoske @em || enya 💥 + kenji 🌫

Enya shivers under the attention, basking in it as she leans up into Ryu’s touch. A small chuckle escapes her at Ryu’s tease, and her attention shifts to Val at the same time she smiles down at her. A solid few seconds pass before Enya tears her gaze away from the flash of fangs up to meet Val’s eyes as she speaks. Fuck. These two are going to be the death of her. It feels a bit like they’re both waiting for her decision, which is a little nerve-inducing, but even just this is everything and more than Enya’d thought it might be these past few months. “It doesn’t,” she echoes warmly, reaching up with one hand to cup Val’s cheek, and guiding her down into their own kiss. @Cap | Eremurus + Valerie @Aj | Invo + Ryunoske

"Sounds like we're all in agreement then," Ryu smiled as she watched the pair. She rubbed the back of her neck and stood up, flexing her shoulders a bit as she did so. "I had hoped to go on that first date at least, but this is fine too," Ryu softly chuckled as she turned back towards the two. She ran a hand through her hair, pushing back any loose strands and grinned. "I'll take good care of you both." @em || enya 💥 + kenji 🌫 @Cap | Eremurus + Valerie

Valerie leaned into Enya's kiss, gently running her hands through her hair as well as moving closer to her. The kiss was nice- gentle with a hint of something more behind it. She turned to Ryu with a smile and laugh. "We've been on a fair share of our few dates and more. I'm sure we'll have a good time, you two." @Aj | Invo + Ryunoske @em || enya 💥 + kenji 🌫

Enya’s definitely getting the hint, chasing after Val slightly when she pulls back before realizing with a small, faintly embarrassed chuckle. “Sounds like I’ve got some catching up to do, then,” she smirks, leaning back on her elbows. “Dates and otherwise. Gonna leave me hanging or what?” @Cap | Eremurus + Valerie @Aj | Invo + Ryunoske

Ryu chuckled in a low, almost seductive tone, and nodded. "No, I would never, glowstone," Ryunoske replied as she placed herself over both of the other women. She gave both of them a kiss on their forehead, and for a split moment, there was a sense of vulnerability to Ryu's eyes. "You're both so beautiful.." The soft moment leaves Enya flushing even deeper than before, smiling as she cranes her neck into the kiss. She leans into Val’s side, at the same time reaching up to trace a warmer-than-usual hand along Ryu’s jawline. “You’re right there with us, Ry,” she murmurs softly, before her hand slides down to the back of Ryu’s neck, and…well. Seems like the time for words is over.

The sense of vulnerability in Ryu's eyes felt like a drug to Valerie. It was so rare to see her like that. Valerie could probably count on her hands how many times she's seen Ryu look at her like that- and it certainly wasn't a lot. Valerie smiled, this one more genuine and full of a fondness reserved for the two of them. Valerie wraps her arm around Enya's waist as she chuckled quietly. "Let's enjoy ourselves tonight. And enjoy it they would... ... Ryunoske was no stranger to having more than one warm body with her, but when the morning finally came, she was a little surprised to still feel both Enya and Valerie beside her. Being the biggest meant she defaulted herself to be in between them both—It was easier to cuddle that way. She had one arm wrapped around either woman, a blanket half-hazardly thrown on top of them, and their clothes were still strewn about the room. What an interesting morning. A smoke was Ryu's immediate thought as soon as she woke, but with being stuck in between two beautiful sleeping women, she knew better than to bother them. Enya’s never been a morning person, and unfortunately that is not something that’s going to change overnight. She’s still fast asleep by the time Ryu wakes up—curled up into Ryu’s side and emanating warmth like a heating pad with half her legs haphazardly kicked out from underneath the blanket. At some point she shifts in her sleep, seeming like she might be waking for a second, but all it results in is just her rolling onto her other side. Unfortunately, Ryu’s arm is still trapped. As Enya settles again, back against Ryu this time, she ends up pretty much koala-hugging said arm to her chest. Waking up in the morning was always a mixed bag for Valerie. Some mornings, she was ready to go, other she wanted to stay asleep and rot away. Today was the second choice. She buried her head into Ryu's side, letting a content sigh through her nose. Ryu laid there... and laid there... and laid there. Eventually, the craving for her cancer sticks got the better of her and Ryu moved her head to kiss both Valerie and Enya. "Alright, sleepy heads. After a good few moments still, Enya stirs and rolls back over. One eye slowly cracking open up at Ryu, bleary with sleep, she mumbles something completely unintelligible in what, at least, still has the semblance of some sort of response. Reluctantly she detaches herself from Ryu’s arm, and fumbles around for the blanket with one hand to drag it over her head instead. Valerie couldn't help but groan. Ughhh. She didn't want to get up. She squeezed her eyes shut tightly and sighed. "Its so earlyyyyy." She whined. "I don't wanna get up..." Ryunoske chuckled as she watched both women's reaction and she gave them a small squeeze. Thankfully, Enya had moved off her arm, so that meant Ryu could sit up and look over Valerie—since she still hadn't let go. "I know, I know.. just continue sleeping. I just need a smoke, princess," Ryu smiled and kissed Valerie's temple. "You two are probably exhausted.. I'll leave you be, alright?" She said as she gently pried her arm out from Valerie's hold and stood up from the bed. @Cap | Eremurus + Valerie @em || enya 💥 + kenji 🌫

Enya must be a little more awake now, because after a short moment there's a rustle in the blankets and she pokes her head back out, briefly scrunching her face up at the morning light. She shifts around until she's comfortably laying on her side, tucked against Valerie. She rests her cheek on her arms, slowly blinking as she watches Ryu stand. Her voice is ever so slightly rougher than usual when she replies, expression fading into a still tired yet faintly amused look. "Mm.. Need a light.?" @Cap | Eremurus + Valerie @Aj | Invo + Ryunoske

Ryu shook her head and waved her hand. "Nah, don't worry about it, baby. I'll just steal a bit of light from somewhere outside. That's what I've been doing since we got here," she replied as she grabbed her clothes off from the floor. "I'll see you two later, alright? Don't wait up for me. Enya mock pouts for a second or two, before extinguishing the tiny flame in her hand with a small chuckle and leaning her head back against Val's chest as she watches Ryu. "Alright," she hums warmly. "Be safe, Ry. "Alright," Enya hums, leaning in to kiss Valerie properly this time before sliding out of bed with a small grin. It takes her a little bit to get back into her robes, and they're only slightly disheveled, but eventually she looks presentable enough. "Let me know later if you find anything too, okay? We'll get together again." A few minutes after she leaves, Enya delivers with a mug of coffee and a couple different baked goods. As much as she'd like to stay, though, her own breakfast in the refectory is calling her name.
