MASKTOURN

One of the many meandering temple corridors terminates with the Great Door. Great, indeed! This door stands at about twelve feet tall, and is just under nine feet wide. It seems impossible, a stone slab of this size could ever be moved- let alone used regularly as a door. The door is decorated entirely with ornate bas-relief, though it seems unclear what, exactly, the reliefs are depicting. Intertwined human bodies converge upon each other in acts of passion and violence, a sun descends near the top of the door’s patterns, flame rises near its foot. Though the door is almost entirely white marble, there are flashes of rich, russet red across the reliefs- the ember of a flame, the rays of the sun, a spray of blood. The mass of carvings seem to surround and converge upon a singular, hand-shaped plaque. The handprint is inked the same red that appears in the rest of the relief.

The plaque seems… inviting. It wants you to place your hand upon it.

The robed, masked attendant wordlessly led Roman through the bleak, silent hallways- making each turn with complete confidence. As they neared their destination, the eerily silent hallways became less and less silent- Roman would be able to hear the occasional pained exclamation or gasping sound, especially as they approached the great door. The attendant paused in front of the door for only a moment. Instead of placing their hand upon the plaque, they knocked twice upon its heavy marble surface, and waited... @Mads | Roman 🥁 Asha 🎆 ? 🪱

Through the silent hallways, Roman was humming something. Probably a Rayes song. But as he heard some other noises, the humming stopped... Damn, he was a few minutes late and he lost his spot in line! Some other desperate weirdo got ahead of him.. Maybe Peregrine? He could've flown here, after all. Moments after the attendant had knocked, the sounds abruptly stopped. A few moments later and the door began opening in a mesmerizing, unfurling motion- each stone panel pulled away by some unseen force. When the door completely opened, it revealed Naiyta- bare naked but for the gold-metal piercings adorning its bare skin. "Ah, you're finally here." It regarded Roman, and gestured he enter. Roman watched with interest as the wall fell away- maybe this would be useful later- but looked with even more interest at Naiyta. Yeah, instantly he looked down to check out the genitals situation Naiyta had going on, before he entered or said anything else. @innsjo | kyrie🪶+ darcy🖋+npcs

Naiyta didn't seem to mind Roman checking out what they had going on down there- he'd be able to tell they were AFAB, and hadn't made any major alterations to what they'd been born with, save for a clit piercing. "Just because I have space doesn't mean I have the right place to put these," they said. "I'm very particular about my decor." They sighed, but ended up taking the flowers anyways. "But I'll find somewhere to put these." @Mads | Roman 🥁 Asha 🎆 ? 🪱

The attendant brought Roman, naked and shivering, out of the room, and deposited him on the cold tile floor of the hallway. It turned back into the room afterwards, and the door shut behind them. Roman was left all alone, with absolutely nothing. @Mads | Roman 🥁 Asha 🎆 ? 🪱

Roman tried to keep a grip on the attendant, but it had no problem breaking out of his weak hands. How was he supposed to get out of here? He couldn't walk down that mountain all on his own, especially not when he was soaking wet and freezing. "H-hello? Can anyone help me?" Roman called out. The hallway was completely empty, and deadly silent. Around the corner, though, Roman would be able to see a flickering, dancing flame traveling down the hallway, getting closer to him... @Mads | Roman 🥁 Asha 🎆 ? 🪱

Oh come on. "N-Naiyta- stop!" Roman exclaimed through clattering teeth. He scrambled backward across the tile floor toward the exit, but he wasn't as fast as the fire was. Not to mention, he was slipping and sliding around everywhere. @innsjo | kyrie🪶+ darcy🖋+npcs

The flame turned the corner, and revealed it wasn't a flame at all, but a person on fire. She was about the same height as Roman, with shockingly similar facial features. He had the same curly, shoulder-length hair as him, too, and was wearing the exact same outfit Naiyta had given him. The only differences between the flaming figure and Roman were the vitiligo patterns across their skin, their less-bony build, and the two massive wings held aloft behind them. That, and their eyes- white irises against black sclera. This was Raikal. She seemed fairly concerned for Roman, and approached him cautiously. "Help- you need help?" @Mads | Roman 🥁 Asha 🎆 ? 🪱

The ghost of situationships past... What the hell Naiyta, this guy looks like he could be his dad! Or his weird bird twin! "R-Raikal-" Roman nearly choked as he stared up at Raikal.. Man, Naiyta was just like Roque.. Leaving the soul of her ex all weird and still half around. As he felt the heat, he wanted to embrace it, but the view of the fire was too scary. Raikal seemed surprised at Roman's instant recognition, and put a hand to their chest. "Yes- it's me. No need to- don't be afraid. I'm here." It neared Roman, extending out a hand. "I am here." @Mads | Roman 🥁 Asha 🎆 ? 🪱

"..." Roman frowned even deeper. "I- I-i know.. I-i'm with them now a-and they just.. they.." Roman sniffled and wiped away his tears. Dark bruises were starting to form across his wrists and hands, they looked like they were from some kind of rope. Matching bruises were on his feet and ankles as well. Grief welled up in Raikal's dark eyes. They reached out a sympathetic hand towards Roman, before remembering the fire and darting it back. "I am sorry, I am so sorry. That you share this pain." @Mads | Roman 🥁 Asha 🎆 ? 🪱

"I-i just thought I could help them.. I thought w-we were getting somewhere.. B-but they just want to make me you"- Roman moved both hands over his eyes and collapsed on to the tile floor pathetically. "Th-they don't really care for me at all. E-everyone else was right.. Raikal paused as Roman went on, their brow furrowed in concern. Even after he finished speaking, they didn't reply. For a long while, the only sound was the crackling of the fire. "It- it wants you, to be me?" He repeated. "It wants me back?" @Mads | Roman 🥁 Asha 🎆 ? 🪱

Raikal nodded at the mention of Anore, and seemed like she was desperately trying to communicate something to Roman through the barriers of her ghost communication. "Yes- Rukime, his- rook name. My son." @Mads | Roman 🥁 Asha 🎆 ? 🪱

Okay, had two names.. "Anore killed Naiyta a-and became the second Lifebringer.. He must have gotten revenge for you, Raikal." Roman said. "D-do you have a rook name too?" @innsjo | kyrie🪶+ darcy🖋+npcs

The air around Raikal's hand was unpleasantly warm, and only grew warmer as Roman's hand neared him. At some point, Raikal realized this, and drew his hand away, though he seemed very frustrated about it. @Mads | Roman 🥁 Asha 🎆 ? 🪱

Roman was visibly sweating as the heat grew, but it was more from anxiety than the temperature. "N-no it's- it's alright.." Roman assured and kept his hand out. "You can touch me." @innsjo | kyrie🪶+ darcy🖋+npcs

Raikal was hestitant, but extended his hand out again. The heat became unbearable, it felt like Roman's own skin was burning- though he remained untouched by the flame. As Raikal tried to touch Roman's hand, their own phased through his flesh, and the only sensation Roman would be able to feel was a hot, unpleasant burning, that quickly faded when Raikal retracted their hand again. Roman winced the entire time, and could hardly even look up at Raikal as they got closer. As soon as Raikal backed up, Roman looked over his hand carefully. Seemed unfazed.. good. "I'm sorry." Roman apologized. "Is there no one up here for you to talk to and touch..?" @innsjo | kyrie🪶+ darcy🖋+npcs

Raikal seemed upset, but not particularly because of Roman. She glanced down the hall. "There is- another." They admitted. "But she doesn't.... like me." @Mads | Roman 🥁 Asha 🎆 ? 🪱

Raikal didn't seem to care. She was still thinking about places Roman could wait. "Small door, on the west side of the temple." They suggested. "Further from here. The crowling will see you. She can help." @Mads | Roman 🥁 Asha 🎆 ? 🪱

Roman had to shuffle over toward the wall first so he could put a hand against it to support himself, but once he was there, he managed to keep up with Raikal. Yeah, sounds familiar.. "A-after it called me by your name, I asked why it was trying to turn me in to you.." Roman took a deep breath. "I-i asked if it was so it could kill you again.. That really set them off.." @innsjo | kyrie🪶+ darcy🖋+npcs

Raikal's gaze grew distant. He looked away from Roman, trying to hide his expression. "I... don't know why." @Mads | Roman 🥁 Asha 🎆 ? 🪱

"With how mad they were.. I-i think I may have been right." Roman said. "I'm sorry, that you had to die like y-you did.. it's awful.. They've already burned me once." @innsjo | kyrie🪶+ darcy🖋+npcs

Raikal didn't reply for a long moment. "I thought.... I loved them." @Mads | Roman 🥁 Asha 🎆 ? 🪱

Raikal paused for a moment, keeping his face away from Roman. When they did speak, their voice crackled like the flame enveloping them. "... maybe so." @Mads | Roman 🥁 Asha 🎆 ? 🪱

It had taken Roque weeks to break down Roman, but how long had it taken Naiyta? A day to be mostly successful? Was he that desperate? He would have still been in "love" if Naiyta hadn't just gone too far. Why did it take something so extreme to shake him? He sniffled, and rubbed away more tears. "A-are we almost there? Roman's legs were shaking as they kept walking in deeper. He wanted to be carried, but he knew better than to ask. He stayed silent. @innsjo | kyrie🪶+ darcy🖋+npcs

Kallum hesitated before the door, his mind unfortunately replaying the insistence from Albanes. But what did she know? He stepped closer to the door and knocked it, once. @innsjo | kyrie🪶+ darcy🖋+npcs

... there was something happening beyond the door, but the sounds were too muffled and strange to really tell what was happening. It stopped a few moments after Kallum knocked. A few moments later, the door opened, revealing Naiyta- drenched in water, their white tunic stained in blood. "What do you want?" It barked. @soul | kallum 🔥 + peregrine 🎭

Kallum stared at Naiyta, then his eyes ran across the blood on their tunic. Still, once spoken to, he wasted no time in responding. "I spoke to the woman. Alan's. She said you were angry. And she called you a liar." He shook his head in disapproval. @innsjo | kyrie🪶+ darcy🖋+npcs

"So?" Naiyta's tense expression grew incredulous. "I already told you, she's a liar." @soul | kallum 🔥 + peregrine 🎭

"I told her that. I didn't believe her either." Kallum stared at the ground. "She claimed to know a different me, but obviously it was a lie. Proved all she does is lie." @innsjo | kyrie🪶+ darcy🖋+npcs

"I don't need you to gather proof she's a liar. I already know." Naiyta said. "What do you want?" @soul | kallum 🔥 + peregrine 🎭

"She doesn't." Naiyta affirmed. They leaned back from Kallum, to look him over. "Is that what you have come here for? To let me use you?" @soul | kallum 🔥 + peregrine 🎭

Naiyta tilted their head to the side. "Do you wish to please me, Kallum?" @soul | kallum 🔥 + peregrine 🎭

Naiyta narrowed their eyes slightly. "Do you consider what we did last night abnormal." Like everything, this was a test. @soul | kallum 🔥 + peregrine 🎭

Kallum quickly met Naiyta's eyes, with struggle, then averted them again. "I don't- usually do it- that. But it wasn't bad. Or abnormal. Not- not bad." @innsjo | kyrie🪶+ darcy🖋+npcs

"Look at me." Naiyta demanded. "I want you to do exactly everything I say without question or doubt. Is that understood?" @soul | kallum 🔥 + peregrine 🎭

"Good. I don't have the patience for insubordination." It gestured to the door. "Come in." @soul | kallum 🔥 + peregrine 🎭

Roman had the blood creature set him down in front of the door, and put both it and Roque's eyes safely back in the blood dimension. He sat in front of the door and wrapped his arms around his waist, waiting anxiously for either Kyrie or Naiyta to show up. He hoped it would be Kyrie, so he could preface with how sorry he was without Naiyta making any snide comments.

It wouldn't be long before Roman would notice two figures approaching the door- Naiyta and Kyrie, linked arm in arm. Kyrie looked viscerallly uncomfortable- still covered in dirt and soot from her fight- while Naiyta was practically beaming with anticipation. "Get up." It instructed Roman as they neared the door. "We have a guest tonight, so I expect you to be on your best behavior." Kyrie avoided eye contact. @Mads | Roman 🥁 Asha 🎆 ? 🪱

... Both of them. He couldn't say anything without earning Naiyta's ire, and he'd rather not start off the night with that. He moved his arms out in front of him and attempted to push himself up to his feet, or at least his knees, but his arms buckled under the slightest weight. He tried again, but only failed more pathetically. He hadn't gotten his second dose of blood today, and he had only eaten whatever Ace had offered and half of that grilled cheese. Not nearly enough to support him through tonight. He didn't say anything, choosing to instead lay on the ground. "I-I'm trying, my lord." Roman said quietly, and after giving himself a moment to rest, placed his palms back down to the cold tile floor. With an intense amount of effort, he got his upper body off the ground and shifted his legs under him. Now sitting on his knees, he put his hands on the wall behind him and tried to get whatever grip he could on the wall patterns. His fingers mostly slid right off of it, but he somehow managed to force himself up to standing. Even in that position he was half bent over and bracing against the wall as his legs shook. Naiyta stepped away from Kyrie, and she moved to help Roman stand up- seems, at least, she didn't blame him for this. At least... not too much. Naiyta pressed their hand to the panel on the door, and gestured for both Kyrie and Roman to follow. "Come on in..." @Mads | Roman 🥁 Asha 🎆 ? 🪱

Roman leaned against her, half slinging his nearest arm around her shoulder to keep him standing. "Thank you." He said, loud enough for Naiyta to hear. He leaned his head down against her shoulder, and said much more quietly, "And I am sorry." @innsjo | kyrie🪶+ darcy🖋+npcs
