Wolf made his way to the rooms almost immediately. He was a social creature, but he was also a territorial person. He wanted to pick his room and he wanted to pick it first. They may have been identical, but he wanted the better one.

He didn't even bother reading the name plates- his tunnel vision taking advantage of him.

He set his suitcase down on his premium selected bed of choice- slapping the belt on it as well. He tilted his head a bit, rolling his shoulders and stretching a bit. He was feeling a little sore...

He should probably dress that wound on his head at some point- and change his mask.

He reached up and unclipped the mask under his chin, reaching up to his temples to begin pulling the mask off-@Mads|Roque🩸+Hannah🦈+Madeline

"I'm freezing my tits off out there! Fuck!" Hannah said loudly as she entered the room. She seemed to be in an even bigger rush to enter the room than Wolf had been- not even looking around the room before she entered it. She spotted her name at the end of the plate, not bothering to read the other two.

She tossed her bag on to one of the beds and dropped her surfboard to the floor, before reaching for the end of her shirt and pulling it up. She paused halfway when she finally noticed that Wolf was also in the room. @Sam | Su-Ji 🐯+ Wolf 🐺

Wolf quickly yanked the mask down upon hearing someone enter, his eyes wide as he stared in her direction. He looked almost like a startled wild animal. Upon Hannah pulling up her shirt he quickly averted his gaze, clearing his throat loudly.

"Uh--... Nice fin...." @Mads|Roque🩸+Hannah🦈+Madeline

She quickly shoved her shirt back down, her face bright red.

"Sorry I didn't know anyone else was already in here- especially uh- you-" Hannah moved her hands over her face. "I just- just.. I need to change in to my warmer clothes.." @Sam | Su-Ji 🐯+ Wolf 🐺

Thankfully- Wolf's face was very hidden and if he was blushing, it wasn't visible.

"I'll head in to the bathroom." Hannah quickly walked over to her bag and unzipped it, clawing out all of her stuff until she found her warmer clothes. She carried the pile of clothes over to the bathroom and slammed the door behind her. @Sam | Su-Ji 🐯+ Wolf 🐺

Wolf blinked, glancing over as she fled from the room.

....So that... That happened....

Didn't exactly make asking about dinner any easier.

He took the opportunity to remove his mask fully, shaking his head and grabbing a new mask from his suitcase. Thankfully... He kept a bunch of spares. Without access to the bathroom he couldn't wash the blood out of his hair- but that could wait. @Mads|Roque🩸+Hannah🦈+Madeline

Half an hour or so later, Hannah finally re-emerged from the bathroom. She was wearing dark gray cargo pants, a tight black shirt, wool boots, and a denim jacket with wool trim on the inside. The end of the sleeves had a shark tooth design, and the back had an embroidered image of a shark with its mouth open.

She held a scarf and a hat in her hands, seemingly deciding against putting those on already.

Wolf glanced over to her, raising an eyebrow. He hadn't changed at all- still shirtless in his own black leather cargo pants and combat boots. Hannah could now see the wolf tattoo on his back now that he was lacking his coat... and all of the scars that littered his body.

"It's fine." Wolf shrugged. "I think it's a little less... awkward for me than it is for you. Women wrestlers' gear can be pretty revealing. Not to mention women wrestling fans exist who like to-" Wolf paused slightly and cleared his throat. "Uh- show more than they should." @Mads|Roque🩸+Hannah🦈+Madeline

"Briefly spoke with the head guard of the island- nothing important came out of it." He shrugged.

Wolf shifted a little, pausing as though thinking for a moment.

He tilted his head.

He tilted his head, finally glancing over Hannah. "...Of course, I didn't promise Roque anything." He shrugged. "I wasn't too sure about it either. Nothing against sleeping around, but this is a competition, y'know?"

Yuga slipped into the hall of the dorm, and tried to ignore anything of the ongoing conversation in case the two were still talking about birds and the bees. He looked around, noting that there were multiple doors, and the voices and scents came from behind one of them. He quietly made his way to the other door, and opened it. It was a bedroom with two beds. Wait... he glanced towards the other door where the voices came from. Were both of them settled there? There was no luggage here. And there was only three names...

The fox grinned. Awesome, he could have a whole little den of his own. This worked out nicely. He dropped his new fancy clothes into the room, left his coat somewhere on a rack, made his way to the third door that he guessed was the bathroom, and started to fill the bathtub.

Once the bath was ready, he shed his ragged, dirty clothes, dipped himself into the warm water and started soaking himself. He wondered if the amount of soap was going to be enough, as the water slowly turned brownish gray. It only got darker and thicker colour once he started scrubbing his fur off.

He was going to take a while. Sorry guys.

Wolf gave a quiet hum. "...Something... personal happened to me when I was younger that caused an uproar in our family as well.... We didn't move as far as you did, I'm sure, but our already secluded life got more.. secluded." He mumbled as he set his clothes to the side. Mostly his same old wrestling outfits but there were some casual looking clothes- plenty of masks.

"Personal..?" Hannah asked. "And yeah I guess Ohio would've been worse- or like.. Northern Maine where there's nothing going on.. Iowa was mostly chosen because there's a train station there that needed a new owner, and my dad needed a job wherever we moved, so we just went to good ol' Osceola.. Eh, it's kind of close to the capital.. almost.." @samzart

"I think now I'll be fine, with my jacket and all. And I'm a bit better in the cold when I'm a shark, so I might still be able to swim.. Just not for too long." She looked back over at him. He had to change the bath water, and he was worried all that dirt and loose hair would clog the pipes. Luckily, it didn't, and after one more thorough washing, he was finally clean. Once he had shaken his fur and dried the rest with a borrowed towel, he felt oddly light.

Next was the task to detangle his mane and brush his fur. Fortunately, there was a comb he could borrow. It took a while in itself to rack the tangles out of his head fur, that had grown very long since the last time he'd cut it.

Once he was done, the change was pretty drastic, when he looked into the mirror. The dull black, shaggy fur was now soft and clean, and although it was dry and lacked its healthy sheen, it still had a bluish-silver tint to it, when light hit it in the right angle. He combed his tail with care, and the scraggly rat tail turned into a lush plump of fluff, that curled gently over itself. He had to take a moment to just sit and look at himself, not really recognizing his image.

He snuck into his part of the room, and started dressing up. With the clothes was something he could tie his mane with, and once he was dressed, he returned to the bathroom to use the mirror and tie as good of a topknot as he could. It all felt surreal. He moved like in a dream, like he wasn't fully present. He might wake up any minute. This all couldn't actually be happening. It felt so weird to be clean, and to wear this fancy clothing like some prince from a fairy tale.

"My outfit is a bit more complicated-" Hannah paused as she heard the announcement. "Shoot- guess I gotta get going now.. And I just changed.. Ughhh.."

She dug through her bag and pulled out some kind of complicated silvery dress and fishnets that were all tangled up.

"Why did I just shove everything in here without folding it.." @samzart

Wolf looked up at the announcement. He glanced down to Hannah and rose an eyebrow. "...Looks like it." He pulled off his boot, working on the other before tossing it aside. "...By the time you get that undone the gala will be over," he half joked. @Mads|Roque🩸+Hannah🦈+Madeline

"I know you're joking, but you're probably right. I should've just got changed in to this instead of my warm clothes when I got here." Hannah piled everything in to her arms. "Do you need the bathroom quick before I go in there? I might be a while." @samzart

"...You want help untangling that first?" He instead offered. "...I Had to tie and untie fishnets throughout my childhood. Pretty good with them." @Mads|Roque🩸+Hannah🦈+Madeline

"That would be great. Could you do that while I go get the rest of it put on? That might take a while too." Hannah took a step closer to him, digging the fish nets out of her jumbled pile of clothes. @samzart

Wolf held out his hand so she could put the bundle of nets in his hand. "Yeah, it shouldn't take me long. I'll be changing in here." @Mads|Roque🩸+Hannah🦈+Madeline

She handed them over and pivoted to head over to the bathroom instead.

"Thanksssss!" She said as she headed inside and closed the door. @samzart

Wolf nodded as she walked out, setting the fishnets aside.

He focused on getting himself dressed first- probably for the best if Hannah was going to be embarrassed about catxhing him changing or something.

It was as simple as undoing his belt, dropping his pants, and pulling his new suit pants on. He slipped on a button-up shirt he brought, rolling up the sleeves and... yeah. Good enough for him.

The mask stayed on- but he put in one that had glittery black parts. Fancy.

He began untangling the netting once he was done... @Mads|Roque🩸+Hannah🦈+Madeline

Hannah spent a while in the bathroom changing. Like at least half an hour, before she finally opened up the door again.

Her dress was a shiny silver color, and split down the middle until it passed her stomach, exposing basically her whole torso. It drooped down a little too far, to where you could see the small shorts she was wearing as well. The fabric of the dress extended about to her knees in the front, forming a V shape between her legs. There were two long tails on the back that dragged on the floor. The sides of the dress extended upward from the split, forming a tall collar that was connected by a small chain going across. She also had long black gloves that went up to her elbows, with cutouts for her thumb, pointer, and middle fingers, as well as spikes along the back. It was also pretty clear that she spent some time redoing her makeup and nails.

"How's the untangling going?" @samzart

Wolf blinked as she stepped into the room, glancing over her outfit. Admittedly, he had seen more revealing wrestler gear.

"I finished a bit ago," he replied as he gestured to her bed where the fishnets lay- surprisingly free of tangle.

"...You always dress this... fancy for events...?" @Mads|Roque🩸+Hannah🦈+Madeline

"I don't get out much anymore, so.. I figured I'd bring out my cool clothes, y'know? Me and my dad got this custom made a few years ago- it's doesn't really fit like it used to but I still like it." She stepped over to her bed and grabbed the nets, careful to not mess them up again. @samzart

Hannah chuckled and began stepping back toward the bathroom.

Hannah headed back in to the bathroom yet again- for much shorter this time. She came back out wearing them and headed over to her boots, which she had placed up against the dresser.

Yuga returned to the room, dragging his feet. He popped in the bathroom, before retiring into his little dorm room. He looked for a lock on the door, and was disappointed to find none. He looked around, and took the other chair in the room, and jammed it under the door handle. There. That ought to do it.

He took the lily out of his hair, placed it on a table, and looked for the new clothes he could smell had been brought to his room. He changed into the warm pyjamas, and felt a similar warm feeling as he had felt dressing into the formal clothing earlier. Something about clean, fresh clothing and a warm bed, was just so dreamlike and comforting, he had to suddenly fight tears again. He wiped his eyes on his paws, put the lily in a drawer, made sure the door was properly barricaded, stood in front of the window for a moment and sent a quiet prayer for his mother, and slipped into a bed. He curled up, and was snuffed out in a matter of seconds. So tired... Finally he could rest without a worry.

Then, there was some clatter and scraping, as Yuga removed the chair from the door and put it aside. Finally, the door opened a crack, and a glowing, red eye peered out.

Yuga's ear flicked slightly, and he looked up at Luuk, before at the tray again and reached to take it. He hadn't felt good enough to go and get any proper meal, so he was grateful for the stew. Yuga made a little grunt in reply. He moved the chair that was still in an ackward place, and put it in a way he could sit at the table without turning his back fully on Luuk.

There were crumpled bundles of toilet paper on the bed, as well as neatly folded, clean pieces of toilet paper. Yuga had been using them to blow his nose in lack of better tissues.

He set the tray onto the little table and sat down, coughing into his sleeve. It wasn't a hacking, dry cough like before.

"A bit better", he replied quietly.

Luuk noted the tissues adorning Yuga's bed. "If you'd like, I can get you some actual tissues. They'll probably be softer on your nose." He suggested gently.

At Yuga's response, he smiled. "That's good. I'm glad to hear you're feeling better. We can get you more medicine tomorrow, to continue the treatment. Colds are fairly common up here, due to the weather, but at least that means we know how to treat them." @Twig | Taisto + Yuga

Yuga glanced at the tissues on his bed, and nodded. "Okay, thanks."

Yuga listened to Luuk, and nodded along. He didn't feel he needed to reply to that, so he started carefully tasting the stew. He hadn't ever had codfish. Not that he knew at least. It was interesting, and with his nose more or less clogged he couldn't taste the best, but the stew was warm and nice.

"...It's good", he said quietly.

Yuga nodded again. He continued eating in silence for a while, sniffling as the steam and warmth made his nose more runny. He wondered if he could ask Luuk some questions while he was there, but didn't feel like talking too much. He also just wasn't sure what to ask, or how to ask some things...

Eventually he coughed a bit, before talking quietly.

"What... why was wingman hurt in kitchen?" he asked.

Yuga listened intently, and nodded slowly, though his ears drew back at the mention of Petrai being trigger-happy.

"I don't want to be hurt" he tried to explain his concern, but realized his wording was pretty bad, and continued: "I can fight, I will. But I don't want to hurt when it's not its time yet." Hopefully that explained it better. He didn't want to get sent home if they thought he wasn't fit to fight. Ryunoske had already doubted his skill. (she hadn't)

Yuga took in a sharp, wheezy breath. The fur on his neck poofed up, as did his tail, but he seemed excited-, though it quickly became anxiety as he continued wringing his hands and looked at his empty bowl without seeing. His ears pressed back, and his tail brushed the floor faster. He seemed to think hard about something, his ears twitching, his whiskers quivering.

Finally, he spoke quietly and insecurely.

"Could I... maybe send a letter...?"

Yuga gripped his clothes and shook his head hastily, even though it felt bad in his congested head.

Yuga stared at Luuk anxiously while he was thinking, half expecting him to refuse. When he instead agreed to ask for permission and reassured it'd be okay, relief and bittersweet joy filled the boy's chest, and he let out a quiet whine. His ears remained lowered, and his eyes pricked with emerging tears, but he smiled weakly and relieved.

"Thank you", he said in a quiet, high-pitched voice, like he was holding back tears.

Yuga listened keenly, his hears moving subtly with his changing emotions as he did. He stared at Luuk with a slight concentrated frown, and slowly nodded to show he understood.

He was quiet for a moment again, before looking up and towards the common area of the room, where the little prayer corner was. He looked the way for a little while, before looking at Luuk again.

"Who is Lifebringer? What is Lifebringer?" he asked.

"Oh?" that was surprising to Yuga, and his brows furrowed in confusion, tilting his head a little. He didn't know what the scientific explanation for the world's creation was, but it was weird to him that a religion didn't have a deity that created the world.

Yuga's tail wagged a little bit, and he smiled back. "Thank you."

He stood from the table as Luuk started leaving, and coughed. He glanced at his bed, before looking at Luuk.

Mallon hadn’t realized that their room had been moved, so they’d accidentally slept in their old room without noticing the sign instructing them to move until the morning. So now here they were standing outside the room their named had been hastily added on to.

With a shrug they push the main door open and their head slowly swivels as they glance between the two inner bedroom doors. Which one has their bed? It’s not clear, so they simply set their singular bag down for now. The room had been quiet overall before, so they noise that they’re making is definitely noticeable. @Twig | Taisto + Yuga

Yuga had been sleeping soundly since Luuk had left. Now, the morning announcement stirred him a bit, but he remained in his bed, eyes closed and half-asleep.

The thudd in the hall made him wake up and flinch slightly. He turned his head and shuffled into a better position to look at the door. Was that Wolf or Hannah? Probably. He couldn't still smell anything to be sure. Then, he noticed he had forgotten to barricade the door, and startled. He couldn't tell what time of the day it was, as it was still dark, and he hadn't really properly woken up, so he assumed it was still evening. Nobody was in the bed next to him, after all.

He sat up hastily, and swayed in the headrush, almost falling back on the bed. He coughed.

Mallon doesn’t waste too much time just standing there, as they first check the inner room opposite Yuga’s. Inside they can tell pretty quick that it looks like two people’s belongings are already there—so they don’t linger long in the main area. If Yuga was trying to get a hang on their smell, it’d probably be vaguely fishy.

They go to push open the bedroom door, blinking a few times at the darkness inside. One of their earfins swivels in the direction of Yuga’s cough, but they seem to assume he’s asleep as they try to be a little quieter and toss their bag onto the empty bed.

A husky, startled yelp carries from the other bed, and a pair of glowing red eyes turn to stare at Mallon. What little light carried from the hallway to the room glistens on a row of white teeth under the eyes. A rough growl scratches through Yuga's sore throat.

Mallon whips around at the yelp, earfins flaring out wide as they spot Yuga’s glowing eyes and teeth. When he growls at them they almost immediately snarl back, baring their own sharp teeth, but it does seem to be more of an instinctual response. They stop pretty quickly once they realize there isn’t much of an immediate threat.

Mallon does, however, shift to intentionally keep Yuga out of their blind spot. “I did not mean to barge in,” they state, crossing their arms loosely. “I did not know anyone was here.” It’s kind of a half-apology.

Yuga's fur stands on end as Mallon snarls back, and his tail poofs up and restlessly snakes and whips behind him, smacking the bed every now and then, though his fur merged into the darkness. Once the fish person talks, he lets his lips slowly cover his teeth, though he keeps his piercing, unblinking stare on them.

Had Luuk talked to Mallon? Yuga eyed them suspiciously, shifting to sit up better, and his ears stay turned back.

"I'm here", he rasped, and coughed, not turning his head away. "Yourr Mallon?"

Mallon’s attention is momentarily drawn to Yuga’s tail, which they seem to regard with interest for a second or two, before they revert to meeting Yuga’s stare with their one pale grey eye.

“I am,” they reply simply, then pause for a moment remembering the three names on the plate outside and asking, “You are?”

"Yuga", the fox answered after a beat. Then, his eyes finally looked away from Mallon's face, to glance at them up and down.

Yuga's ears pressed lower and he suppressed another growl. He gripped his double blankets and stared at Mallon from under his brows.

Yuga huffs in annoyance and anxiety. Seems like Luuk didn't reach Mallon after all.

They frown at that. “There’s no need for any of the church members to seek me out. I haven’t done anything wrong.” Mallon pauses for a second, then adds, “Besides sleep in the wrong room last night. But still.”

Yuga shook his head a little.

"Not cuz you done anything wrong. Just beecause I-" his voice got too gravelly at this point for him to talk, and he got a coughing fit, putting his arm in front of his mouth. He felt around the bed for tissues, grabbed one of the crumpled papers and blew his nose thoroughly. After that his voice was a lot clearer.

"I.. worry. I can't sleep when someone can attack me", he decided to be truthful. He eyed Mallon and absentmindedly crushed the paper tissue in his paws.

Mallon’s eyebrows furrow, and their stare becomes a little bit more concerned rather than defensive. They don’t seem willing to question whatever might be ailing Yuga, though. At least not yet.

Faint surprise joins the emotions on their face though at Yuga’s following statement. They consider it for a moment, then reply, “I was assigned here. I’m not going to attack you. My fight lies in the arena so unless I will see you there, or until I do, then I have no quarrel with you.” They sit down on their bed with a soft thump as if to emphasize their point. @Twig | Taisto + Yuga

Yuga eyed Mallon suspiciously as they came further in and sat on the bed. He shifted further back in his bed, pulled his legs close to him and leaned his back on the wall. His tail coiled around himself.

"...Promise?" he said. He didn't think he would be able to trust Mallon enough to sleep anymore, but he still wanted to talk to them. Maybe figuring out what kind of person they were would ease his mind a bit.

"I could move rooms later. But, but now I'm here. I don't want trouble." @em | enya + mallon

One of Mallon’ earfins twitches, and they nod curtly. “Yes. I would much prefer a victory with honor.” Unlike Yuga’s position they’re sitting with their feet planted on the floor and back straight. The only thing about them that seems less rigid right now is their stare, having relaxed in intensity much more by now. “I don’t want trouble either. So that seems like it works out then.”

Yuga continues to stare at Mallon, still distrustful and nervous, but his eyes aren't as intense anymore either. He nods slowly, shifts into a nicer position and gathers his blankets around him, pulling them over himself. He doesn't wrap them around himself tightly, since he still wants to be able to move fast and dart out of the bed if need be. He leans against the wall and remains looking at Mallon in silence, though quietly coughing every now and then.

When Yuga doesn’t say anything else, Mallon studies him for another long moment. They’re still silent as they do so, but it sort of seems like there’s a lot of effort going in to whatever they might be thinking about. Seconds of silence tick by until they finally shatter it with a blink of their eye and the rustle of the blankets beneath them as they stand up.

Yuga's ears remain pinned back, and he feels increasingly uncomfortable the longer Mallon looks at him, but he can't complain. He's looking at them as well, after all.

"...Breakfast?" he asks, stupefied. "It's... not night?" he looked out of the window into the darkness. @em | enya + mallon

They unfortunately don’t seem to notice Yuga’s discomfort—though their gaze does break away briefly to adjust the bandana on their head.

Mallon’s head tilts almost imperceptibly at the question, though, one earfin leisurely flicking. “No. There was a morning announcement.” They don’t offer much more than that by way of explanation. Very helpful Mallon, thanks.

"Oh," Yuga croaked, and coughed. He hung his head for a moment, still looking up at Mallon, but trying to think how he was feeling. He still felt sick, but he wasn't as awfully cold and weak as he had been last morning. Food could be good, although he didn't have a big appetite. Maybe he could go get some tea at least. But could he trust Mallon?

"Mm... Maybe", he looked quickly around and grabbed his day clothes from the back of a chair. "I'll dress up... then." @em | enya + mallon

Mallon nods shortly, but makes no move to get dressed themself. Not that Yuga would be aware but it appears they’e still in the same outfit that they had been wearing the entire time so far, save for slight details that hit at it being an exact copy of the outfit. “I will wait.” They don’t seem like they’re planning to leave the room, but they do turn their gaze off of Yuga for now. @Twig | Taisto + Yuga

Yuga looks at Mallon with a slight frown, then glancing around the room. He coughs dryly, but decides it's ultimately better if he leaves instead, and he carefully stands on the floor. He sneaks around Mallon warily, eyes looking for any sudden movements, before he slinks out of the room and goes into the bathroom. After a short moment, he returns in his day clothes he got from the church, and puts his pyjamas onto his messy bed. He looks up at Mallon, and resists the urge to look at the drawer he had hid his golden lily into. @em | enya + mallon

When Yuga returns it doesn’t even look like Mallon’s moved an inch since he left, save to pick what looks like a tiny fish scale out of their teeth with a clawed fingernail. Their head doesn’t lift, but their eye snaps up as soon as he returns and they stand in one fluid motion. “I am ready to go if you are then.”

Yuga nods, albeit feeling kind of nervous. Mallon has the aura of a hunter, the opposite to the one Isi had, and he feels much less easy around this one. He takes a breath and backs to the outdoor, takes his cloak from the coat hooks and puts it on. He opens the door and waits for Mallon, never quite turning his back on them. @em | enya + mallon

Yuga nodded. He was quiet for a moment, thinking, before looking at the stationary that Luuk had brought. With a light sigh, he moved his plate out of the way, moved closer to the desk, and pulled the supplies under his nose. He shifted them around a bit, picked up a pen, almost put the tip against the paper, before pausing, and staring at the blank paper with an empty expression. @innsjo (glass🎸+ darcy🖋+ npcs❄)

Luuk fell silent as Yuga began to write, not wanting to invade his privacy or overstep boundaries. He sat politely, his hands folded neatly on his lap. @Twig | Taisto + Yuga

Finally, Yuga pressed the pen on the paper, and started to write carefully, with unhurried and neat strokes. He used glyphs that most likely weren't familiar to Luuk.

After a few words, he paused again, and sighed. He seemed dissatisfied. What could he say? "Dear mother. I hope you have been doing well." That much he had written. But how could he continue? What do you say to your parent after an eternity of departure, after you've been deceived and abused, treated for filth and survived by stealing food and digging in the trash? How do you reassure your parent that you are alive and well, when it's barely true? How do you tell how much you miss them without breaking their heart? How could you even fit those emotions on a thin slip of paper?

The more Yuga thought, the more anguished he looked. He remembered his mother's face, her voice, her strong arms and imagined being in her embrace, and he wanted to tell her how much he loved and missed her, and make her not worry for him... But how could he, when he barely had the hope and strength to keep living?

The light in his eyes dulled, and his vision blurred. He quickly moved the paper out of the way when he felt tears run down his snout, and he wiped his face, sniffled, and suppressed a sob. @innsjo (glass🎸+ darcy🖋+ npcs❄)

Luuk had remained silent and patient, giving Yuga all the time he needed to feel his emotions. When the boy began to sob, he moved closer to him and handed over a handkerchief. "Here. Use this." @Twig | Taisto + Yuga

Yuga looked over with an anguished expression, glanced at the handkerchief and took it with a little nod.

Yuga made a choked sound at that, almost a sob, almost a chuckle, grimacing. It was easy to say, but it wasn't so easy to cry, when he had been suppressing it for so long. He sobbed a few times, and it got difficult to breathe normally, and he ended up hyperventilating with more irregular sobs. More tears pushed out of his eyes, but there were still very few, and he started shaking. He put his paws on his eyes. @innsjo (glass🎸+ darcy🖋+ npcs❄)

Yuga flinched at the touch, but didn't move away. He groaned, and leaned his elbows on the table.

Luuk quickly pulled away his hand. In soft tones, he said, "It often seems that way, but there's always ways for things to get better. Often, when we are faced with a lot of stressors, it can become so much our brains resort to catastrophic thinking, the belief that nothing can ever go well again. But this simply isn't true- while you won't be able to easily fix all your problems, it's important to identify and change what you can." @Twig | Taisto + Yuga

Yuga shook his head weakly, sniffling and trying to put his thoughts into words.

Yuga kept shaking his head as Luuk spoke, but he froze when he realized what the dedicant was offering. He turned to look at the man with wide, wet eyes, his ears still pinned back. The glow in the eyes was soft, and the look in them disbelieving, pained, but hopeful.

But the hope died, and the pain and despair took them over, he turned away with bared teeth and covered his face again.

"You don't underrstand. I can't go home. Everryone wants to catch me and put me in cage. Keep me. Own me. I can't go back..." he whined and snarled through the tears. He leaned further down on the table and took a few shaky breaths before lifting his paws off his face a bit, staring at them, a desolate expression on his damp face.

"Thank... thank you f-for... offering a h-home here, but you don't understand... I can't stay in a holy place... like this... I'm... dirty... I'm cursed... I'm.. u-ugly. I'm disgusting and.. e... e-evil...!" His hands shook, he kept hyperventilating and winding himself, getting light-headed, not letting himself calm down, only striking himself with more and more demoralizing thoughts and insults. Luuk neared Yuga- not touching him, but nearing him.

"Yuga, even the dirtiest of souls can be cleansed here. That is the entire point of the church, is it not? Here, you will be forgiven of prior sin and able to begin a new life, reborn into a new, clean vessel."

"Here, we do not wish to capture or cage you. We simply offer a home." Luuk offered. "I do not believe you are evil, Yuga, but if this evilness is something that stains you, it can be cleansed. I have seen it happen before." @Twig | Taisto + Yuga

Yuga trembled and his breath shuddered, but he pried his claws out of his face to look at Luuk again, his wide eyes so dimly lit that he hardly saw the man anymore. His ears were tightly pressed against his head, and his face contorted in harsh, distraught wrinkles and his face fur was damp and messy.

Hope. It was a sweet thought, a light held in front of him, so near, but he couldn't reach out to it. His darkness would suffocate it, surely, there was no hope for him.

"It's not, not possible. I'm a monster, a demon, devil, reincarnation of the Fallen Prince. I can't be saved," he whispered, his voice raspy and stuttering, wheezing out between shallow breaths. @innsjo (glass🎸+ darcy🖋+ npcs❄)

"But... but... n-no, it's, I, but... I... I..." He gasped for breath, quickly and frantically. Luuk couldn't understand. What he was was not in his control. How could he be forgiven something that he was, something that he'd done in a past life, eons ago? He couldn't explain it, not in this state, at least. He tried to dry his face on the handkerchief and stop crying, breathe normally, but it was hard. He coughed and shook his head, swaying, dizzied from hyperventilation. @innsjo (glass🎸+ darcy🖋+ npcs❄)

Yuga shook his head, but tried to breathe. He moved his chair, stood up and took support from the wardrobe, heaving and huffing, before flopping on the bed. He lay there on this back, gasping, shivering, his head spinning and his eyes leaking water. He tried taking deeper and longer breaths, though it was hard, but he was slowly managing.

It felt odd. He felt the small shivers all across his body, from his eyes and ears to his heart and to his fingers. He felt so dizzy that he felt he could fall even though he was laying down. As he slowly calmed down, he felt weightless. He was like a little fluffy feather, quivering in the lightest air current, about to be blown away in the wind. The darkest despair and hate melted away, leaving him numb. Crying had surprisingly helped. He remained on his back, staring at the ceiling with dull eyes, and gasping, letting the salty water dry on his cheeks.

Yuga gulped, sniffled, and waited till his breathing was back to a calm pace. He closed his eyes and felt the world slowly revolve.

He could talk. He wanted to. Luuk wouldn’t do anything to him, he just knew it. He was just a man living on a lonely island, serving his god and helping people. Yuga’s eyes watered again out of gratefulness, and he had to sniffle and wait a bit longer before he could speak. He had to think of where to start, anyway. This was going to be a longwinded tale…

He spoke slowly, sometimes pausing to look for words, or to simply breathe and gather his thoughts.

”In my country, we believe the world was created by Fox Goddess. It came from her egg. She married and had children with a Dragon God, nine girls and one boy. The Dragon God ruled the world as the Emperor, and the prince was going to be the next after him. The girls were good and honest, but the boy was bad and jealous, he couldn’t wait to become the ruler. He murdered his father, but it was found out, and his mother became crazy with anger and sadness, and attacked the son. She ripped off eight of his tails, but left one, because she couldn’t still kill her son. She cursed him, and his fur burned black, his eyes turned blood red, and he was put into a mountain in prison forever. His youngest sister felt bad, and opened the mountain just a little, so he could see sun rays sometimes, but he let out everything bad that’s in the world out through that crack. He swore one day he would return and take over the world.”

Yuga paused for a moment to let that story to sink in before he continued.

“I am Ninetales. I’m supposed to have nine tales. We are hatched with one when we are still Vulpix, and when we grow, we get more, until we grow the ninth and evolve. I never did. Mom started making me fake tails at some point, to avoid attention. Our neighbor already was looking at me odd. He seemed to notice, even after I wore the wigs. He had already been bothering mom for a long time, since he seemed to think she would be interested in joining the rebellion.” He sighed.

“One day, when I was still a Vulpix, I was going home from school. I heard voices from an alley, and saw two Ninetales scaring this girl Vulpix to give them her money. They had a knife.” He snarled. “I ran to help her. Two weaponless Vulpix against Two Ninetales with a knife. I was angry. I got so angry I couldn’t think. I broke their knife and threw them to the ground and yelled at them. The girl had run away to get help earlier. I started feeling sick, there was a bright light, and I evolved. I evolved into a Ninetales, though I never thought could. Often, mixed foxes don’t evolve. And I ended up looking like this.” He bitterly gestured to himself. “The Ninetales were freaked out, they escaped the alley, when the police came. They took one look at me, and shot me. I ran away. I think they were too shocked to follow me. When I got home, my mom fainted when she saw me. When she woke up and realized it was me, she asked if I had seen myself. I went to the bathroom to look in the mirror…”

His eyes went wide and his mouth twisted into a frantic grin.

“Can you imagine? Can you imagine how it feels? To look in the mirror and see a monster? An actual monster? The devil you had been taught about, something you had feared since you were a pup? Can you imagine seeing that, looking at you with your own eyes? I almost fainted too, I freaked out and yelled and panicked.”

He put a paw on his face, and his body jerked a couple of times, soundlessly. It was hard to say if it was because of sobs or silent laughter, since he was still grinning, but his voice was huskier when he talked again, quieter.

“Mom said it was a coincidence… that it didn’t mean anything… mixed foxes have different colors, different ears, tails, eyes… funny things about them, and it’s just genes. I have dark fur and one tail because of mixed genes, nothing more, just a coincidence… that’s what she said… but… it doesn’t change what people see in me. I was still in danger. Both the ice foxes; the police, and the fire foxes; the rebels, would want me. She wanted me to escape, to leave the country. I ran… but I think I ran away from my destiny, and I’m being punished for it.”

He was quiet again for a moment, not smiling anymore, his paw still over his eyes, breathing quietly.

“I sneaked into a ship. I managed to stay hidden. I didn’t know where it was going, but I knew it went out of the country. I was there for a while, but then I got found. The ship people caught me, and asked what I was and why I was on the ship. They talked about what to do with me and… because I looked different, they thought they could make money with me. They locked me up. I was on the ship for a long time, and then they moved me out in a dark cage. I was sold to someone, and, they, and…” he bit his lip and shivered, his tail twisting and writhing. He shook his head. He couldn’t recite everything that had happened. “I… eventually, I was put in back of someone’s car… the car broke on the road, and I escaped. I ran into the city, it was Ninjago. I lived there since then, on streets. I avoid people, scare them. I think, it’s been maybe two years… maybe.” He finally fell silent.

Luuk listened intently as Yuga described his story, letting him say anything he felt he needed to. Still, he did not see in the boy before him a prophesized demon or incarnation of ancient evil, but a lost, mistreated child. A child who had been raised to believe in something horrible then made to become that evil.

"Yuga...." He began, pale eyes filled with watery sadness and the hint of sympathetic tears. "I am, so, so sorry you had to go through such things. No one should be made to live in danger because of how they look. I know little about the genetic variations of your kind, but if your mother believes it could be pure coincidence, then... well, it's nicer to believe the kinder possibilities, isn't it? I really think that if you were the reincarnation of such an evil force, you would not be so grieved or remorseful about it."

Luuk sighed. "I know it does not mean much, but I do urge you to consider my offer. The faith of our church is different to that which you grew up with- we do not believe in devils or demons, or evil incarnate. The only divinity that truly matters is the benevolence of the Lifebringer, our caretaker. I believe stepping away from the society that raised you might heal some of these wounds you still carry." @Twig | Taisto + Yuga

Yuga sniffled, and took his hand away from his face. He turned his head to look at Luuk as he talked, his eyes still dim, but he could still distinguish the man's expression somewhat. He considered the other's words for a moment, before replying in a hoarse, quiet voice.

"Of course... I wanted to believe her too. I thought like that for a while, told myself it was just a coincidence. But all these things happening, it's like a curse... and, then there's the dreams I keep having..." he whispered. His brow furrowed and he looked down.

"I see a land burning with blue fire, and the dark shape of a..." he paused to look for the word, and couldn't find it. "A... the... what Empress sits on in the Palace..." he muttered, annoyed and a little embarrassed. @innsjo (glass🎸+ darcy🖋+ npcs❄)

Hannah entered the room, pausing as she saw the scene going on on the other side. Yeah, good thing Ryu didn't try to go here. She shrugged and tried to tune out their personal conversation as she went to her side of the room and grabbed a change of clothes and her towel before heading in to the shower.

She took a pretty long shower. Like at least forty five minutes, before stepping out in her new clothes. She quickly grabbed a small bag from her side of the room and ran back out, hair still entirely dripping wet and leaving a little trail of droplets behind her.

Yuga flinched, and his head popped up from the bed when he heard Hannah enter, but seeing who it was, he plopped back onto the bed and sighed.

"...I'm scared of myself. I'm scared what I might be, what I might do to others. Sometimes I get so angry I can't think, and I... I'm afraid... Afraid to live and afraid to die. I fear everything that might happen."

Yuga frowned, and tried to think. What could make him feel better? He closed his eyes for a while. He smiled painfully, and chuckled.

"I miss my mom... It's stupid, I'm not a baby, but I think she could make me feel safer... maybe know what to do or..." He sighed. "And if my father cared, he could maybe help me, but he doesn't... he would throw me to the wolves." He squeezed his eyes tighter, but a couple of tears still made their way out. He really needed to support and love of his parents right now. It could maybe help.

He sighed again. "Again... I do think the church could help. The Hand of God could remake you anew, help you begin a new life here. I promise, he would help you." @Twig | Taisto + Yuga

Yuga opened his eyes and turned to Luuk again, blinking away tears. His ears, or the ear that wasn't squished against the bed, lowered and bent back. Not out of sorrow this time. He watched the man for a moment, quietly sniffling and breathing.

"...It's... nice... to talk to someone... about... this..." he admitted, swallowing tears and blinking. He was moved and grateful, and a faint, warm feeling started hesitantly growing in his chest.

He considered for a while longer, turning onto his side and lightly curling up, hugging his tail against his chest. He stared, searching Luuk's face like it had answers to his unspoken questions, until he voiced them:

Yuga made a quiet hum, and nodded. His tail moved slightly, now in a more relaxed manner, and he looked outside from the window in thought. Oh... had it been that long already? The sun had already set.

Hannah never really voiced a complaint throughout that- it only really began to ramp down when it was getting clear that her exhaustion from the fight and now this was catching up with her.

She seemed very content, actually. Easily best sex she'd ever had, as it wasn't with some shitty straight guy who only cared about himself. Close second was obviously the threesome with the shark guy and his boyfriend, but all of them being drunk kind of ruined it in retrospect. Couldn't remember it very well. She was frequently gripping at the bedsheets, when she wasn't gripping on to Ryu herself, her claws threatening to break skin, but never quite achieving it. In fact, whenever she seemed too close to that, she moved her hands away. She was also quite loud, just in general. It seemed like she was aware of that, as every once and a while she'd try to muffle it in one of her pillows to mixed success.

That just made Ryu chuckle some more. "A woman who can kill me is the most attractive of them all," he hummed, before suddenly pushing up from the bed and flipping their positions. Ryunoske pinned Hannah down, holding her wrists just like she had her.

Hannah came back to her room after that awful interaction, walking with just a bit of sadness. She packed up her things in her bags, and left them on her bed. The room was pretty messy, with she sheets, blanket, and pillows from her bed scattered across the room. It also smelled pretty bad, due to both Hannah and Ryunoske.. Pretty gross.

But that wasn't her concern anymore.

She piled up all her bags up by her door and walked out, only taking a pen and post it note with her.

Titania cringed as the various smells hit her senses. She put a hand over her tendrils. "Did you two burn a forest or two in here..?" The smell seeping from Hannah's room wasn't all that strong at this point, but Yuga still wrinkled his nose when they arrived. He went to his and Mallon's partition, and paused for a moment. His bed sheets had been taken. He made a sound between a grunt and a huff, and went to the window like he'd meant to do, and opened it.

As Yuga did that, Isi went back into the other room, found the bed that didn't smell funky, and tore some strips of fabric from the sheets. It occured to her that she should wash the blood off his fur too, so she went to the bathroom to get a damp towel. Soon enough she was back with Yuga, holding the things she'd gotten.

Yuga lifted his head when Isi headed out. When she came back, he wagged his tail slightly. He seemed much more quiet and kind of deflated. Not all worked-up and excited like he had been after they defeated the zombies.

Isi gently took his paw to bring the arm closer, and blotted at the wound with the damp towel first before wrapping it with the strips of bedsheet. It wasn't a difficult wound, but it hopefully wouldn't get infected this way.

Isi shuddered a little. She'd never come that close to dying before, and it was enough to make her realize how badly she wanted to live, to get out of here. She didn't say anything, but did absentmindedly feel the broken antler again.

Yuga didn't say anything more. Now that they weren't in immediate danger, the thoughts started filling up his mind again. Murky, dismal thoughts. For a while he had had hope, he had thought he could live... and now that that hope had been crushed so brutally, it was darker than ever. There was no hope, no future, no light. He was going to die in the streets, cold, ill, cursed, alone... he wished he'd gotten that letter sent to his mother.

Luuk... that traitor. He'd been in this room many times, bringing him food and talking, pretenting to care. Yuga's heart ached and his face distorted with pained rage when he thought about it. That he had for a moment thought he could maybe have a father figure. He wanted to scream.

Isi didn't like the silence. She knew it was needed, maybe Yuga needed it, or something, but she didn't want it, because now she had to think.

The smell of singed fur, the voice of that worm echoing in her head as she broke the lock. the stale air of the tunnels. The fact that she could feel watched by someone who couldn't even see. She didn't know what everyone else had thought of Yoenaixho before, but in that lab was the first time she remembered speaking to him, and it was while she circled his wife's corpse to keep away from him. She remembered running after Yuga, trying to talk to the guard who didn't hesitate to stab her. There was every chance that today she was going to die, or get the only thing that made her whole taken, or both. But she hadn't, yet.

That still didn't leave her with much. She was so determined to get out of here, but she didn't have anything to return to when she did, only she knew she couldn't stay in the city.

This tourn had been her chance to trust people. And in a way, she did, she could trust Roy, she could trust Darcy, she could trust Yuga. But the amount of distrust spread by those who had lured them all here was enough to mostly undo that progress.

Isi stayed silent, squeezing her eyes shut for a moment.

Yuga's ear flicked. His ears and even his whole body felt like they were quietly vibrating to a sudden, deep and loud droning sound. His head popped up from the mattress, and he looked around the room, his ears tilting this way and that, trying to find where the sound came from. Almost immediately he took notice of the bright light outside. The sun? No... what was it?

"Isi...?" he murmured nervously.

Yuga's ears turned back, and he made a quiet, whimpery growl. He pulled his feet onto the bed and curled his tail around himself. He was quiet for a moment, the odd sound rattling his insides.

"What should we-." And then it ended. The light faded. Yuga looked at the window.

"...What should we do?"

Yuga paused to think. His roommates were somewhere, but regardless of them treating him nicely, he hadn't grown attached to them. The only person apart from Isi who Yuga had become close with, was Luuk... and the mere thought of the man made Yuga see red.

"No." He shook his head.
