Albanes led Peregrine from the bathhouse down to the underground kitchen. Hang was already in the kitchen, cooking what looked to be a huge pot of stew. She waved to Albanes as they passed her.
"Here we are," Albanes led Peregrine over to the large, industrial sink. "Now, I assume by the looks of you that you've never done a minute of manual labor in your life. Do you need me to teach you how to wash dishes?" @soul | peregrine 🎭 + ekmeros 🎻

Peregrine waggled his fingers at Hang as his form of a greeting but otherwise just followed Albanes. He chuckled at the dig. "Well I suppose you could say I have done manual labour, just not the kind you're thinking of." He looked down at the sink, his eyebrows furrowed. "Well, I suppose you'll have to clean a few dishes for me to teach me so it means less work for me, hm?"

Hang ignored Peregrine completely, focusing on her stew.
"Your skills won't be useful here." Albanes deadpanned. Her manner of speaking seemed eerily like Petrai's- she'd definitely taken after the woman, in some way. "You'll be doing more work if I teach you than you would if I let you sit around in your incompetence."
Albanes demonstrated how to wash a few dishes, explaining as she went. Rinse them out, douse them in soapy water, rinse them again, then off to the dishwasher. She then had Peregrine go through the same steps on his own. "Your turn." @soul | peregrine 🎭 + ekmeros 🎻

Peregrine sighed dramatically and picked up a dish. He turned on the tap to rinse it and held the dish at just the right angle for the water to bounce right off in Albanes' direction. Unfortunately for him it just splattered harmlessly on the floor. But he could work with that. "Bummer. Too bad I'm on dishwasher duty and not mopping," he teased.

Peregrine staggered back, quickly pressing his hand on his shoulder and grunting. Rather than checking his bleeding shoulder, he craned his head to check that his wings hadn't been caught in the crossfire. Ha. Luckily not. Instinct worked well for him. He smirked to himself, then at Petrai and... said nothing.

Peregrine didn't move fast enough. Before he could fully turn around, Petrai shot another bolt- and this one pierced directly through his left wing. Right where it'd hurt the most. Almost like she knew exactly where to shoot.

Peregrine realised too late what she was aiming at and his attempt to raise his wing did nothing to stop the bolt stabbing through his feathers. He screamed - a real scream, not just in pain but in anguish, his throat scratching with it, morphing into a sob. Panic filled his eyes, wings flapping wildly even with the injury as his head burrowed down toward the ground, allowing himself to gasp with pain, breathing shaky. He tried to speak a few times before he was ready to and could only manage wobbly letters that trembled into heavy breaths and stifled sobs. His arms wrapped around his neck, pinning himself down, elbows digging into the ground, not caring if it was wet or if the plate shards were too close, because none of that mattered to him. Nothing else mattered but the bolt in his wing. Nothing else had ever mattered.
Even when he began to speak, his voice shook and he couldn't force himself to smile. "W-well. Was... was that really necessary?" Peregrine couldn't suppress the actual pain in his voice - but the emotions rang louder than the physical.

His voice sounded hoarse. Bitter. "All this over some silly joke... I think I've made up enough for it now."

Peregrine forced a low chuckle at the mention of the Hand of God. Definitely ruined his chance there. Or maybe he could salvage it. Didn't matter. More important things to focus on. His eyes were wide, still with that sense of panic, and his face was lightly shaky but otherwise... blank.

Albanes nodded solemnly, her face still contorted in anguish, and turned towards the door- the door that led to the dining hall. Hang followed closely. After the dedicants, Petrai shoved Peregrine forward- gently enough to not hurt him further, but not sparing any other force. Peregrine glanced up to see the door they were taking and the panic only grew. Petrai's shove was the only thing making him move at first, but he did walk forward with the prompt. However, his wings were frantically rearranging themselves to be folded with the left, injured wing underneath, even if it hurt to move them that way, or hurt him. It had to be hidden. Nothing could be wrong with his wings.
